Day 4: March 14 2017

Today the crew got off to a late start due to the snow. With a whopping 2 inches, the entire District of Columbia was put on hold. We assembled in the lobby at 9:00AM to head over to our nation's capital.

We were welcomed at the United States Capitol Police headquarters by Commander Jerry Buhaj. At the headquarters, we were treated to a presentation by the CPD tactical bomb squat, K9 unit, and a recruitment officer. Deputy Chief of Police Sunds also spoke with us about our career goals!

After the presentation, we headed over to the Capitol building for a behind the scenes tour. Wow!

On the tour of the building, Vice President Mike Pence had the pleasure of seeing our group walking by. He waved to some of our students and went on his way.

Our students got the opportunity to learn about the extensive history of the Capitol building as well as the inner workings and how the building is run. We also were lucky enough to sit in on a Special Senate Hearing on the proposed Trump health care bill. The Capitol Police took us into many special areas!!

After our tour we headed off to District Seven to drop off tonight's group of students for their ride alongs. Good luck tonight and be safe Stephen, Nick, Ainsley, Briana. Those who did not go out on their ride alongs tonight were treated to a wonderful presentation by NEC Alumni Molly Wilcox, class of 2014 who is currently studying at Quinnipiac for her Juris Doctoral. Molly stopped by following her mock trial exercises this week. She helped us with our techniques and styles in tackling our upcoming senior seminar presentations.

Finally our group would like to wish Jeannine Wood, NEC Alumni class of 2009, a very Happy 31st birthday and thank you for taking time to be with us this week.
